About our company
We’re using biotechnology to clean up mining.
Our new, proven biological dust control process makes mining more productive and more sustainable.

our vision
Biotech for heavy industry
Bind-X was founded with a clear vision: to use biotechnology to make heavy industry more sustainable. We could see the impact of climate change and how unnecessary it was to waste billions of litres of water on dust suppression. The mining industry was reliant on outdated dust control products that were ineffective or environmentally unsafe.
That’s why we developed our biological dust control method — a completely new and proven way to stabilise roads and reduce dust fallout that’s 100% biodegradable.
It’s an entirely new category of dust control that helps mine sites massively reduce their water usage at a time when it’s never been more scarce. The natural biological process turns dirt into rock, and forms a road surface as solid as bitumen. New bio-tech is here. It works. And it’s future-proofing mining operations in more than 15 countries.
Our history
Bind-X timeline

2013
Our story starts in May 2013 when CEO and founder Martin Spitznagel launches the start-up, Dust BioSolutions. With biomineralisation as the key technology, his ambition was to take sustainable dust control to a whole new level.

2016
Supported by early stage investor HTGF (High-Tech Gründerfonds) who joined in 2015, the start-up steadily makes a progress from prototyping to producing successful products, and effectively responds to market-pull from mining companies with its first dust control product Bind-DC™.

2018
Utilising the technology push from long-established R&D, the first weed prevention product Bind-WP™ was developed

2020
We change our name from Dust BioSolutions to Bind-X and undergo a rebranding to reflect the versatility of our innovative technology.

2021
Continuous growth of the company supported by the Series A investment round leads to proven product-market fit, successful expansion of production, and international expansion. On top of this, Bind-X becomes the winner of the Eramet Responsible Mining Challenge.

2022
Bind-X´ subsidiary is registered as a proprietary limited company in January 2022 in the Southern hemisphere located in Samrand, South Africa, . The site functions as both a production facility and commercial hub and was chosen as an ideal location for manufacturing, facilitating efficient production and distribution of our products to clients on a global scale.

2023
The 10th anniversary of the company marks a shift of focus from product development to stronger commercialisation, and planned market entries on further continents. These activities are paving the way to becoming a world leader in industrial biotechnology and a global player in biological dust suppression products. After a successful Series B financing round, Bind-X has been supported by the shareholders HTGF, HG Ventures, Vantage Value, K&K, Saxovent Venture Capital and Greeneering Invest. This year marks also the successful first certification after the standards of ISO 9001:2015.
2025
By end of Q1 2025, we will also have established a team and a storage facility in Western Australia to bring our biological dust control to Australian shores.

Within the transition towards more responsible and net zero mining, we also see the respective supply chains as being responsible.
Companies like Bind-X need to provide global mining companies with robust, scalable and cost-competitive innovations that are easy to integrate into existing operations and deliver an immediate, positive impact.

Hello Tomorrow Award for Industrial Biotechnology
About hello tomorrow
Hello Tomorrow was created in 2011 by a group of individuals convinced that science has the potential to change the world for the better, but that the traditional model of technology transfer to bring solutions from lab to market – and from idea to impact – could not rise to this challenge.
Why Hello tomorrow choose us
We are thrilled to be backing such an innovative business, and looking forward to working with the team on applying their binding technology to other industries and bringing many more new products to the international market.

towards our bigger mission
Sustainability projects in other industries
As well as the mining industry, we’re also developing new ways to make other industries cleaner and more sustainable.
Construction sector

The construction sector is booming worldwide as the world’s population grows. With this comes dramatic growth in dust pollution and water consumption. Our biological dust control products can reduce water consumption and dust fallout in construction & infrastructure projects.
Agriculture and weed control

Population growth is also increasing demands on the global agriculture industry. Most weed control methods rely on chemical herbicides that create health risks and environmental harm. Our biological technology creates a physical semi-permeable layer within the soil that impedes the growth of weeds. It’s a highly effective and safe way to make farming more sustainable.
